«PrintaVera» print artist group
The International Mezzotint Festival is an international exhibition held in Ekaterinburg, Russia (city guide) for mezzotint print artists working in Russia and abroad. There is no participation fee.
The Festival works from 6th May until 29th May 2011
It includes:
- 2 curator project
- 5 solo exhibitions
- a panel-judged group exhibition
- publishing of a catalogue
- master-classes, lectures and other related activities
The main venue of the project is the Ekaterinburg Museum of Fine Arts. The Festival consists of two main projects: a panel-judged exhibition and a parallel program (solo exhibitions and a curator project).
Prints for the open contest are suggested by artists and then pre-selected by the festival organizers. Prints chosen for the exhibition and contest are judged by an international panel.

Grand-Prix – 100,000 Rub

Prize for adhering to the traditions and skills of graphical work – 30,000 Rub.

Prize for originality and for breaking classical boundaries – 30,000 Rub

Prize for full correspondence of technique and imagery – 40,000 Rub.
Additional prizes may be awarded from cultural organisations and sponsors.
The parallel programme includes a curator project and personal exhibitions.
Conditions of entry to open competition
The festival competition programme is for mezzotint prints produced within the past 5 years (2006-2011). Prints combining mezzotint with other printed techniques may be submitted, provided that not less than 80% of the printed form was produced using mezzotint. The use of any other techniques should be disclosed by the author. Prints should be the author’s own property. The preferred frame sizes for prints are: 40x50 cm, 50x70 cm, 60x80 cm, 70x100 cm.
The selection of prints for the competition will be conducted in two stages.
Stage 1
Artists should send digital images of their works by electronic mail to the Festival address festival@mezzotinto.ru (up to 7 prints, files in JPG format, 150-300 dpi, each file should be no larger than 1 MB),by 28 February 2011. The name of each file should correspond to the name of the print. Files should be accompanied by an electronic Application form, completed in English, including the artist’s biography, contact details and a detailed description of their work. The application form can be found on the festival website www.mezzotinto.ru or can be requested from the organisers – festival@mezzotinto.ru
The preliminary selection of prints for the competition will be conducted by the festival’s Organizational Committee by means of distribution of digital images of received prints to members of the Committee.
No more than three prints by the same artist may be chosen for the competition. Diptychs and triptychs will be considered as one print.
Artists with prints chosen for the competition will receive a personal invitation to participate in the festival via e-mail by 15th March 2011.
A full list of participants will be posted on the festival site www.mezzotinto.ru on 15th March 2011.
Stage 2
Artists invited to participate in the festival should send the original print(s) for the competition to the festival address. Artists can choose to send 1-3 prints of selected works.
Prints should be sent unframed and without matting. On the reverse side of each work the author’s name, full name of the piece, year, size and technique should be stated.
Artists should send their work at their own expense, posted no later than 30 th March 2011(as verified by post-mark). Small prints should be sent in hard-backed envelopes, larger prints – in tubing. Prints should be sent by registered post and declared as «No commercial value», and «Printed material». Along with the print, artists should send a printed copy of the application form, with the list of prints corresponding to the contents sent by post
The festival organisers take no responsibility for damage to prints incurred during transportation.
Each artist may present no more than 3 prints. All exhibited prints will be reproduced in a catalogue.
One of the prints exhibited during the festival will transfer to the collections of the Ekaterinburg Museum of Fine Arts. The other prints will be sent back to the artist together with the catalogue of the exhibition.
Prize-winners will be offered the opportunity to hold a personal exhibition in the parallel programme of the International Mezzotint Festival, to be held in 2014.
All artists exhibited during the festival will receive a catalogue by post by the end of 2011.
